 YAKPAK
started in Brooklyn in 1989. Operations were based out of a small
apartment and the product line consisted of two suede backpacks.
The goal was to offer alternatively styled, well-made bags a time
when there was little choice in the marketplace. YAKPAKs were
immediately popular in the New York area and soon YAK moved to its
first office and warehouse space which was located in an old
Brillo Pad factory building on the Brooklyn waterfront. YAKPAK went
on to develop a variety of lasting designs including the mini
backpack which became a nationwide fad.
